History of Birthright

THE BIRTHRIGHT SCHOOL was started by Mr. and Mrs. Lino M. Del Rosario, Jr. when their daughter was diagnosed to have Leukemia. Every time Danielle was hospitalized for chemotherapy, her roommate at the hospital would be a child with certain disabilities. Pastor Del Rosario would counsel the depressed parents while his wife strove to find ways to help the child.

Finally, the burden in their hearts prompted them to start a small ministry to educate the disabled children in their neighborhood. Starting with four students, the ministry has grown to a school with now more than 100 students and 26 staffs.

After finishing her Master of Education majoring in Special Education at the University of the Philippines, Mrs. Del Rosario insisted on providing the Birthright teachers with scholarships for Master of Education, majoring in Special Education at the University of the Philippines. They too must be trained in educating special learners.

The philosophy of THE BIRTHRIGHT SCHOOL is that every child has the right to education, rich or poor, mildly or severely disabled. The school has been charging socialized tuition fees and has been giving scholarships to poor disabled students living along the railway track. On February 17, 1996, parents of students from the school had a dialogue with former Muntinlupa Mayor, Hon. Ignacio Bunye who responded to their needs by providing the seed money for the formation of THE BIRTHRIGHT EDUCATORS FOUNDATION, INC.

THE BIRTHRIGHT EDUCATORS FOUNDATION aims to educate and rehabilitate persons with special learning needs to their optimum potential. It trains teachers, parents, and adjunctive therapists to empower persons with disabilities. It seeks to integrate special persons to their community activities and culture. It strives to put into practice the concept of inclusive education.

Today, Birthright has a Community Based Rehabilitation program in Muntinlupa City. It also has outreach programs in some rural areas.
